Privacy Policy
Last updated 30 October 2026
This policy covers the Android app Clean PDF Scanner & Reader (pdf.scanner.document.reader.scan.ocr.camera.editor.viewer): it scans paper
into PDFs with the camera and opens any PDF on your phone. The app is free and shows no ads.
Your documents never leave your phone unless you send them yourself. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or location, and there is no account to create.
What stays on your device
Your scans, the photos they are made from, the text read on their pages, the PDFs you open, your bookmarks, favorites, reading positions and settings are stored only on your device (and in your phone's own backup, if you have it turned on). Reading the text on a page (OCR) and finding a page's edges happen on the device; no page, picture or text is uploaded to read it.
When you share, save or print a document, it goes only where you send it: the app you pick, the folder you choose, or your printer.
What we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Android ID and an app install ID | To count how many people use the app and recognise a returning device, without an account. |
| Device and technical information device model, operating system, language, country, screen size, app version |
To make the app work correctly on your device and to fix problems. |
| Usage events app opened, screens viewed, scans started and saved (number of pages, capture mode, how long it took), filters and crops used, exports (format, size bucket), tools used, errors, OCR runs (how long, how many words), feature request votes and sends |
To understand how the app is used and make it faster and more reliable. Events describe what the app did, never what is in a document: no names, no text, no pictures, no file names. |
| Crash and error reports how the app last closed, errors the app caught, device model, operating system, app version |
To find and fix crashes. |
| What you write to us a feedback message or a feature request, with the app version, Android version and device model shown on the form |
To read it and reply with a fix or a feature. Only when you press Send. |
We do not collect your name, email, phone number, precise location, contacts, or the contents of your scans, photos or files.
Country comes from the internet address your phone connects from. We work out the country from that address on arrival and do not store the address itself.
Downloads the app makes
To read text in other alphabets (Cyrillic, Arabic and others), the app downloads the reading files for those languages from our server once. The request carries only the file it asks for. Google's on-device text recognition (ML Kit), used for Latin text, may contact Google to receive model updates and to send anonymous performance metrics, as described in Google's ML Kit terms; it never sends your pages.
Permissions
- Camera — to scan pages. Only while the scanner is open.
- All files access (optional) — only if you turn it on to list every PDF on your phone in the PDFs tab. The files are read on the device to show and open them; nothing is uploaded.
- Photos and media — only if you save pages to your photos.
- Notifications — only for the one "Continue reading" reminder, which you can turn off in Settings.
- Internet and network state — to send usage events, crash reports and messages you write, to download reading files, and to know when you are offline. Scanning and reading work without internet.
Analytics, crash reports and messages
Usage events, crash reports, feedback and feature requests are sent to servers we operate ourselves, not to a third party. They are tied to the device identifiers described above, not to you personally, and we never sell them. Feature requests you send are shown to other users once we publish them, without anything that identifies you.
Children
The app is a document tool for a general audience and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
How long we keep data
Your documents and settings stay on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app. Usage events, crash reports and messages are kept for as long as they help us improve the app, and deleted on request.
Deleting your data
Deleting a scan moves it to Recently deleted, which empties itself after 30 days; uninstalling the app removes all of its data from your device. To have the usage events and messages associated with your device deleted from our servers, email us at the address below and we will remove them.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect the data we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy. If the app starts showing ads, this policy will say so before it does.
